These are professional crews that know what they are doing.  They seemed pricey to us because we were comparing them to landscaping crews, but it’s worth it.  We’ve had landscaping crews who were cheaper priced wreck our trees when we asked them to prune them.  We asked Urban Forest Pro to trim a large paper-bark Birch tree that had limbs on our neighbors house, also trim limbs off of a Maple touching our house, trim dead limbs off a very large Ash tree on the curb, and to shape up a Magnolia tree.  The first crew was John and Luke, and they did a good job.  I paid them for their work.  Then, our neighbor thought the Birch tree limbs were still too close, and we wanted a touch more off of the Maple.  I contacted Urban Forest Pro, and Jessica was quick and courteous to get things set right, and she got a second crew to come out the following week.  This crew was led by Jessie, and they knew how much more could be taken off safely, and carefully trimmed a little more.  They also did a great job.  Both crews cleaned up after themselves nicely.

5/5

The service was excellent. They were efficient, quick, and did what they said they were going to do. They did quality work.

5/5

Possibly the best service from any contractor of any sort in years.
After a large tree fell a few weekends ago, the first-responder tree care person said that a nearby tree, even taller (~125 ft), older and clearly on my property, posed a serious risk of falling as well. This one directly threatened the houses immediately downslope. A tree immediately adjacent to it was questionable too.
Virtually everything about this project, from first call to Urban Forest Pro to last, was what every customer would want. Great web site. Excellent phone coverage and responsiveness. A visit by one of the certified arborists, Jeff, happened on the next business day. Meanwhile, a certified arborist from another well-rated firm confirmed that the bigger of the two trees needed to come down, soon. The rain, wind, wet ground, and slope all made this a real concern.
Mallory, the scheduler, juggled a few lower-priority jobs to move this into ASAP mode, and two days later the trees no longer posed a threat. The cost, though eye-popping, was the best value of the three bids I got (included wood haul, etc etc.). The cable service to a neighbor ended up taking a hit after a limb went a bit off course, but Jeff drove out personally to talk with the neighbor about it. Otherwise, the job proceeded just as they said it would, including neat wood removal.
On top of all that, a truck that I hadn’t used in months sat stuck in the driveway with a dead battery, directly where the company trucks needed to be. Jeff offered to jump the truck, drive it off the property and keep it at their office till the work was done. Fortunately their office is only a mile or so away, which surely made that offer workable for him. But it’s still above and beyond. On top of that, he even went as far as to pick up and install (at my expense of course) a new battery for the truck.
I would have been thrilled with them for everything else — including online payment and no-hassle or premium added for credit card payment — but that? Fantastic, and, because there wasn’t a very good place to park the truck near the house, very much appreciated.
Urban Forest Pro is a smart business, well-run by personable, internet-savvy, customer-aware tree experts.
A-Plus, all the way around.
Needless to say they are the only company I’m going to call in the future.

We had a medium size maple tree (maybe 30 feet tall) in our yard that got sick a few years ago. First it had aphids (lots and lots of aphids), then all the leaves fell off. The Urban Pro guys tried to save it for us with root treatments, but this year it came down with a fungal blight and simply didn’t leaf out in the spring. Time for this poor tree to go. They gave us a big discount on the removal and stump grinding since we had already spent $300 on treatments. Our house was for sale at the time and this tree was right in the middle of the front yard with a new lawn, ornamentals and a picket fence within 3 feet. They took down the tree without breaking a twig or tearing up the lawn. They placed plywood along the fence to protect it. They used ropes and pullies to lower the branches they cut off. Really nothing touched the ground. I think they even vacuumed up the saw dust. The stump grinding was more invasive of course, but even that was pretty minimal and I was able to patch the hole and seed it the same day. Things turned out about as well as possible. They are very good about communication, everyone showed up on time or I got a phone call and email. I got my invoice by email and paid online. Neat, tidy and efficient. I would use them again. I would recommend them.

Urban Forest performed significant tree pruning of 2 large (+4 story maple trees). They removed 3 diseased 2 story photenia’s and replaced with 3 lovely dogwoods. Replaced a diseased hinoki pine with new much bigger one. Great Crew – good clean up. Beautiful job.

5/5

They pruned a large cedar tree in my back yard. It had heavy, low branches which they removed to the height of my patio. They also cabled the top of the tree because the trunk split into four sections. The cable makes it more stable but also needs to be adjusted every two years. |They were very polite & left the yard very clean.

5/5

Had a large tree next to the house, called Urban Forest, they came out promptly, took pictures and were able to secure a Hazard Permit which didn’t cost me any additional money. The tree cutters were right on time and were very efficient. A few days later the stump grinder came, ground the stump to ground level and hauled away the remaining larger part of the tree and cleaned up the yard. I would use them again.

5/5

Urban Forest Pro has always been very responsive to our calls and have taken care of us in a pleasant, professional manner.

5/5

1) They showed up when they said they would

2) They removed tree and all the debris quickly

3) They cleaned up the area very well

When they finished I could barely tell that I had a tree issue

Great work and I’d recommend you for sure

5/5

Very pleased with the work. The trees look great and the work was reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend them to others.

5/5

I’d hire them again in a heartbeat. They were on time, did excellent work, and at a great price for the amount of work I needed done. I got several estimates before selecting theirs, and unlike some of the others, these guys knew what tools they’d need, about how long it’d take, and they did the work with safety a clear priority.

5/5

My wife and hired them to trim and review the health of our maple tree, as well as trim our arborvitae. They did an excellent job, taking great care not to damage the garden underneath the maple tree, arrived on time, and gave us great advice on both the maple and the arborvitae. I have recommended them to friends on more than one occasion, and would not hesitate to do so again.

5/5

The crew was the best, they limbed up our trees exactly as we wanted and then made their way up the trees thinning out the excess branches and dead wood.    They then cut down one large 110 foot fir tree next to the house (8 ft) without any damage.   They were fast, courteous and knew what they were doing.   After cutting down the tree they returned to grind the stump from sight.
This was the best tree service we have ever had and have recommended them to our neighbors.

5/5

I thought the pricing was very reasonable and they did a good amount of work. They trimmed a large tree in the back yard. They sent out four guys to complete the work and they had it done in a few hours. They arrived on time and did a nice job trimming the tree. They did a great job with the cleanup.

After calling around for quotes, just like all good homeowners are supposed to do, we had the most amazing experience with the folks at Urban Forest Pro’s!
The quote was right in the middle of all the rest but the expert who came out to survey our shrubs and dead tree for the quote was in my husbands words ‘a plant wizard’! He knew what all the plants on our property were on sight and was knowledgeable on each of them so much so that my husband could hardly keep up!

Scheduling the work was fast and strait forward, we even opted to add some additional work as the pricing was fair and we were so impressed with the staff and crew.
Not only does our hedge no longer loom overgrown over our fence and the sidewalk, it doesn’t swallow the cable and power lines but is tall enough to continue to allow us great privacy in our new home. The dead tree is now gone and no longer a worry for the coming winter storms and we were able to have other stumps removed to allow for a fresh start to our new yard in the spring!
They crew was prompt, quick and cleaned up after the job was done, all permits were handled by UFP’s and it was a smooth and easy transaction for us! Will definitely use them again and again!

5/5

I never thought I would GUSH over a tree service company… yet here I am.  I called these guys for some seriously challenging tree removals — three 70+ ft Douglas Firs on a steep embankment just feet from the lake and our new(ish) boathouse.  I called five tree companies for quotes — three of them would not even bid the work because of the complexity.  Of the two estimates I did get, Jeff from Urban Forest Pro seemed the most confident in his crew and how they would do the work.  He also offered to do all permit work for the job – relieving me of the painful experience of working with the city and their sometimes overbearing tree rules!

The crew that was sent to do our removals was amazing to watch.  They used a zip line to remove the heavy branches and tree tops from each of the trees – to a huge chipper.  Then they cut the remainder of the trees down in sections and dragged them over to the marina by barge where they removed them (coordinating with Lake Corp staff).  WOW.  This was a 1-week job.  The guys showed up on time, let us know when they were leaving, were professional and left the work area spotless.

On top of it all – Jeff offered to pull our boat out of the water and bring it back to our driveway where it would be safe in the event that something fell onto our boathouse while the work was being done.  Thankfully that was a precaution that turned out to not be necessary, but it was very cool of him to do that.

I have a lot of trees on my property.  This is the only tree service I will call next time.

5/5

Jeff and his guys are amazing! I recently had a 100 year old Cherry tree fall on my house. This tree was huge. One of the large branches pierced through a window in the back of the house and the rest of the tree was leaning precariously on the roof. I received a call informing me of the situation while I was at work. This was Friday in the afternoon and I was worried I might not be able to get anyone over before the weekend. I called Urban Forest Pro and raced home to survey the damage. Jeff was standing in my driveway when I arrived. His crew showed up shortly after and immediately started stabilizing the tree and removing the larger branches that were under tension. They worked safely and efficiently and it was apparent that they have a passion for what they do. Jeff contacted a roofing contractor to have the roof tarped and he also worked directly with my insurance company. This was one of the most stressful situations I have ever been in and Urban Forest Pro alleviated my concerns. There was good communication throughout the entire process. By the end of the next day, the entire tree had been removed in stages by his talented team and a crane operator. I was lucky that nobody was hurt and the damage to the house was repairable. I would not hesitate to recommend Jeff and his crew to anyone in need of an arborist in the Portland area.

5/5

We received excellent service from Urban Forest Pro for the removal of a large cedar tree. The crew members were very professional, courteous and efficient in their work. The tree cutting, wood removal, and grinding crews were very careful to minimize any damage to our yard and planned and executed the work accordingly. The person doing the grinding, Kelly, took great care to grind the stump very deep and restore the landscape to original grade. Again, great job by all and we definitely recommend Urban Forest Pro to others.

5/5

We lost our 100+ year oak tree back in May of 2014. After the initial removal we were left with a stump that was huge (tried to post a picture but didn’t work). At the time, no one wanted anything to do with the grinding of the stump because access to the tree was very narrow and the stump required a big machine. I went on Angies List and found Urban Forest. I called and was given a very fair bid from Dale and his reassurance that they would be able to get to the stump even if they had to use a small (more tedious and time consuming) one. Kelly Long arrived in the morning and he was amazing. He was able to maneuver the big grinder to where the stump was and he did a great job. So glad we made the right choice because this was a challenging job 🙂

5/5

While scheduling was a little difficult due to the challenge of using a crane, the crew did an excellent job cutting down a very large tree only 4 feet from my house on two sides. They cleaned up after themselves and were very courteous. I would use them again.

5/5

Called Urban Forest Pro to ask if they could prune two large pine trees when they were doing work for my neighbor the following day. The office confirmed that most likely they could but said as there was no time for anyone to visit and quote that I should discuss needs with the work crew as each crew is headed by a Certified Arborist. Next day the work crew arrived on time and Josiah, CA provided an acceptable quote and confirmed that the work could indeed be done that day. He and his two helpers reshaped the two pines by removing low hanging branches, cutting back others to let light in and removing 30 year’s worth of dead branches and accumulated debris. Trees with a large fire load rather too near my house and that were an eyesore are now much less of a fire risk and quite beautiful. It rained next day, and for the first time in memory the soil under the trees got wet, as did my lawn attesting to Josiah’s eye and skill in removing just the right branches. I highly recommend Urban Forest Pro; the office and crew communicated well together and were both most responsive, and the crew did a magnificent job. I was also pleased that the crew worked safely, wore the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and that they thoroughly cleaned up after themselves. I could not be more pleased.

Description Of Work:

Pruned several giant douglas fir trees on our sloped backyard–not easy trees and not easy access!
Pruned a maple tree.
Removed a small douglas fir tree.
Also removed 2 cherry trees and ground the stumps (one was sick and one had roots that was making the patio brick buckle up). And removed an old stump that was intertwined in a fence (also not easy).

Comments:

This was a huge job.  Our GIANT douglas fir trees are on a slope in the back yard.  Plus the space between houses to get the equipment into the back is not very wide.  But they did a great job and were very professional and easy to work with.  I’d highly recommend them!

5/5

Description Of Work:

Full prune of 4 sequoia trees, plus cabling added to two of them to prevent or reduce the likelihood of the top parts of the trees breaking off during a wind storm. Also shape variegated Japanese Maple.

Comments:

They arrived on time in the morning, assessed what they were going to do, then spent the next 6 or so hours performing the work. They did an excellent job. They were able to bid and add the Japanese Maple work that day. We have a swimming pool and they took time to use the pool cleaning net to clean any debris that fell in the pool

Description Of Work:

Removed two Black Locust tree’s and thinned two 110 ft Douglas fir tree’s.  Plus other miscellaneous pruning. Stump grinding.

Comments:

I called Urban Forest Pro and Jeff came out and gave me an estimate.  I liked Jeff’s estimate the best and so we scheduled the appointment to do the work within the following week.  It took two days to complete the work.  They were very professional and because of the tall tree limbs they had a bucket.  They neatly placed the firewood under my carport.  On the second day they did a full prune on my Douglas Fir tree’s.  These two tree’s have never been touched before so I was a little nervous.  I am happy to report that I hired the best team to do the work.  They were very careful and the tree’s look like they will be going strong for many more years to come.  Thanks to the crew…Tim, Anthony, Cole and Jason.

5/5

This was an excellent experience from beginning to end.
Five of the seven trees needed to be removed for a forthcoming building project. I was very concerned about possible damage to our house or the neighbor’s new path, both if which were very close to the trees. I needn’t have worried. Cole and his team were most professional in the way they felled the trees and nothing was damaged. They chipped the branches and cut the larger wood into logs 16-18″ long (I am now supplier of firewood to the neighborhood). They did a good job clearing up after the job. The following week, Jason ground these stumps as well as several others in the yard, exercising great care as he manipulated the powerful grinder in difficult situations. The scheduler, David, made sure that I was kept up to date on the details throughout the process.
I found Urban Forest Pro a really pleasant and highly competent company to work with.  Felling large trees can have serious consequences if not done by experts and though this job was not cheap, it was worth it to have peace of mind. It is a pleasure to strongly recommend the company.

5/5

I got three bids when trimming my very large fir tree … Urban Forest Pro had the best bid and they did a fantastic job! … their cleanup was so thorough that you couldn’t tell anyone had been there! … I will always return to Urban Forest Pro.

5/5

Excellent- love the job. Would hire and recommend Urban Forest Pro without hesitation. They really know what they are doing and the rates are reasonable. Excellent company.

5/5

Got several bids to take down my pine tree that was way too big for my yard and had uprooted my fence and stone landscape. I chose them as their bid was the lowest. they did a great job in taking the tree down and were safety conscious and were careful not to damage things while doing the work.

5/5

Everything went very well.  They were highly knowledgeable and really knew how to approach the situation.  In fact, they actually had to climb up into the trees to do the trimming, and they managed to do a great job without leaving a mess.

5/5

They pruned a very large maple tree. The work was completed and all debris removed. They followed up two weeks later to make sure we were happy with the job.

5/5

Urban Forest Pro took down three 60′ cherry trees and one apple tree in my yard. They ground four stumps. The guys that came out worked well as a team and knew what they were doing. They cut the trees into rounds for me and hauled away the rest. They ground the stumps well below ground level, leaving only holes. They cleaned up the site, including some of my yard leaves. Who could ask for more?

5/5

The estimator Jeff was on time and friendly. He gave me a lot of valuable information.

The crew that came to work on the tree was on time, professional and got the job done quickly.

Not sure how they compare price wise, but I would use them again. On time, charged what they said they would and left no mess. Excellent!

5/5

The Team and Urban Forest Pro provided exactly what I needed:

1) They showed up when they said they would

2) They removed tree and all the debris quickly

3) They cleaned up the area very well

When they finished I could barely tell that I had a tree issue

Great work and I’d recommend you for sure

5/5

Dealing with Urban Forest Pro from the beginning to the end was painless and professional. Quick responses and kept appointments were greatly appreciated. The scope of work was done professionally and the price was very fair.

5/5

Alex came out shortly after my call requesting an estimate. He was friendly & professional, provided a competitive bid and scheduled the work to be done in a timely manner. The crew did an impressive job at taking down a truly enormous tree in a very tight space, between two houses. It was a lot of fun to watch! The downed wood was removed from my property promptly. The stump needed to be reground but it was not a problem when I called Alex to let him know. I would recommend this company and would use them again.

5/5

We’ve been using the company’s services for approximately six years, and they really know what they’re doing when it comes to trees.  Furthermore, their website offers a multitude of resources on how to garden with and care for trees, and it’s very easy to communicate with them about any issue.

5/5

These guys know their stuff when it comes to trees and plants!

We ordered 3 mature trees all over 10ft tall from them a few years ago and when the two thundercloud plums seemed to be looking not so healthy this past fall they took special care to make sure I was still happy with my trees and that they got the necessary nutrients with two complimentary treatments to monitor their health. Now that’s customer service!

This company was on time and staff seemed knowledgeable and friendly.

They were even willing to give a few tips on our other trees.

My neighbors used them as well for a big tree trim and cable job.

Not a lot of companies go the extra mile these days, but Urban Pro did for us.

5/5

Jeff and his team are great!  The pruned and took care of the 10-12 trees around our house in NE Portland. Then when one of the trees fell ill they came out to take a look and advise us on what was wrong with it and what would be the best tree to replace it with. Great company!!

5/5

Urban Forest did work for my condo complex. We have a wide variety of trees including: Bonsi, Janpanese maple, cedar, cherry, and a few others. Jeff came out and was able to provide a few different options based on a few different budgets to meet the needs of the HOA and owners. He also recommended ways we could preserve owner’s views without harming our trees. The work went really smoothly and was done by the time I got home in the evening. They also got permits for us and carried all the licenses and insurance required by the HOA.

5/5

Everything went very well, and we would definitely use their services again.  The company was great about communicating some scheduling problems, they were happy to accommodate our request for some touch up work, and they did a great job without leaving a mess.

Cut down 2 trees, cut stumps hidden under vines close to the ground, ground large and small stumps many in a rock garden, trimmed large hedge
Different crews came each day because the work was different.  Both crews were courteous, interactive, professional and knowledgeable.  They were just plain nice.  They cleaned up and hauled debris away.   Email communication with the scheduler was seamless.

5/5

Urban Forest Pro did a great job pruning our trees and reviving a wily pear tree in our backyard. Threw in a nice package deal for multiple trees. The crew was efficient, communicative and did an awesome job. Thanks guys!

5/5

Very organized and professional. I had them remove a 100 foot fir tree and grind the stump in my surburban backyard. The quote was competitive, I received confirmation calls and even an email reminder. The work crew was polite and professional, and they even helped clear some roots with the stump grinder for my replacement tree. This was a big tree and a big job and they performed it well.

5/5

Showed up on time and did a great job. Thet were all about our safety and communicated there moves among themselves as well. Cleaned up and protected areas that may incur damage while they moved around the trees like monkees. Price was below two other bids. Most sure we would use them again!!!!

5/5

I hired Urban Forest Pro this summer (2012) and was very pleased with their work and communication. They kept me informed of the scheduled appt. and asked if they could come sooner as they had some time freed up. They came took out a tree and raised the canopy on my fir tree about 50 feet.
Excellent work and complete clean up for a very reasonable price. I would hire again and definitely refer.

5/5

I hired Urban Forest Pro to trim up some trees and bushes on both sides of my house. They made the estimate easy. After they came out we had a miscommunication of which bushes needed to be trimmed back. I called the owner and he had someone come up and do it right away! They have great customer service and a wonderful price. I would highly recommend using their services. They will make sure that you are happy. I know I will be a lifelong customer!

5/5

Expertly removed a large tree with unsafe branches that could not support their own weight. I would recommend them for large tree trimming or removal.

Have used them multiple times this year. One involved removal of a very tall old and diseased maple, and assessment of nearby trees; also for removal of an old and damaged cedar.

Fast, responsive, non-gouging prices, neighbor-friendly, skillful work, great attitudes all the way around. Wouldn’t use anybody else.

5/5

The “PRO” in Urban Forest PRO is entirely accurate, from very first contact to the last. Excellent communications! Excellent execution! They removed three trees from our back yard with very limited access. One was a dead, 70 foot Lombardi Poplar – two feet from a gazebo and five feet from a boathouse. They removed it with NO collateral damage. Difficulty scale = 9+ of 10.

5/5

Very professional. On time for estimate appointment; offered a range of options for the work needed, and was clear about expectations. Service performed with same professionalism.

5/5

I was happy with the work. They did an immaculate job; not a single maple leaf was left anywhere when they were done.

5/5

Urban Forest Pro was professional, prompt and safe. The crews did a remarkable job of safely removing four, 100′-tall Douglas Firs that had been growing adjacent to high-voltage transmission lines. Because the electric utility crews had been removing branches on the sides closest to the power lines for decades, the tress were in danger of failing and falling onto our neighbors’ house and ours. The job was tough, but the job was done well.

5/5

I am very happy with this company. The experience has been very easy and painless.
I had scheduled Jeff to come out for an estimate. My other estimators did not show but Jeff did despite the very icy streets. For that alone I gave him high points.
His bid came in higher than the others but I talked to him and told him the situation. I was so impressed with promptness with the day he came out for the estimate that I felt he earned that chance. He agreed to meet me halfway (on the cost) – which was $200 more than the lowest.
Alex was my project manager and he scheduled the work. He realized that some permits were needed (an arborist’s report) since our home is in a special zone and got all that taken care of.
The work was scheduled and the day turned out to be a bitterly cold and windy day but his crew came out and did the work extremely cleanly. The two trees they removed were very close to our house (about 15 feet from the trunk to the edge of the roof… and these trees were about 100 ft tall). The trees started dropping branches on the roof and hence I wanted them removed.
These guys cut down both trees without anything falling on our roof or any impact to our power lines! The power supply to our home was stretched right next to the trees and I was sure they would impact it. I was pleasantly surprised when that did not happen.
It was a frigidly cold and windy day but the crew stayed on schedule and got the job done incredibly cleanly. I was very pleased at how well they operated given the tight constraints of the workspace and inclement weather.
I am very pleased with the whole experience.

5/5

These guys did a major production with the 2 fir trees… got rid of all the dead ends and properly pruned a very large tree. I was very impressed.
